Who we are

After we had established ourselves as one of the first big-game boats here on the island of São Vicente in 1997 and celebrated our first big catches, it had become impossible to keep these fish-rich waters as an insider tip. Quickly, our islands located in the northwest of the Cape Verde archipelago became the No.1 marlin Mecca in the Atlantic Ocean. In terms of both quantity and size of marlin, there is no place on earth that can compete with us.

Located 1800 km south of the Canary Islands and 500 km west of the African mainland off Senegal, in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean, the archipelago of Cape Verde (Cabo Verde) is still considered the world’s best fishing ground for Atlantic Blue Marlin.

Our motor yacht HAPPY HOOKER 2 is moored in the Mindelo Marina of your “marlin island” São Vicente in the harbour town of Mindelo.

Priority is given to fishing for Atlantic Blue Marlin. The average size of the marlin is between 90 kg and 150 kg. But fish weighing 200 kg, 300 kg and heavier are also regularly caught. With the exception of record catches, all sword-bearing fish are released.
We don’t want to endanger the global blue marlin population even more.
We fish from March to the end of October, with the windiest months of July, August and September being excellent for speed jigging, which is then carried out intensively and with good success. Marlin are also caught in the remaining months of the year.

Large wahoos up to over 40 kg, yellowfin tuna up to 120 kg, big-eye tuna up to 150 kg, white marlin, longbill spearfish, shortbill spearfish and, from the end of July, sailfish are regularly caught as by-catch. Of course, we are happy to organise special shark fishing trips at your request, with the tiger shark in the foreground due to its enormous size.

From mid-July we also offer speed jigging for amberjacks and lots of other fish. More information under “Speed Jigging”.

The “HAPPY HOOKER 2” is equipped with the latest navigation technology, colour echo sounder, VHF marine radio, 8-person life raft, outriggers, large comfortable “International Thuna fighting chair” and toilet. The fishing equipment consists of 80 lbs Penn International 2-speed and Shimano reels as well as top quality Penn International II rods. You can bring your own fishing tackle, but you do not have to. You will be assisted by two helpers in the cockpit. We wish you Petri Heil and Tight Lines.
